The brief for this 1960's brick veneer home was to improve the functionality of the house by connecting the upper and lower areas, provide new car accommodation and generally improve the aesthetic of the property from both the front and rear. Additional space was created on the ground floor by excavating under the existing house, allowing the upper floor relatively untouched. A number of design options were explored, the client ultimately preferencing the inclusion of softer timber battening elements to introduce some texture to the rendered brick facade.
